SCIENTIFIC SEMINARS AS AN INSEPARABLE PART OF EDUCATIONAL PROCESS IN LVIV THEOLOGICAL ACADEMY OF UKRAINIAN GREEK CATHOLIC CHURCH DURING 20-30 YEARS XX CENTURY

Abstract

Based on the used archival documents and materials of modern historiography the peculiarities of the organization of Greek Catholic Theological Academy in Lviv as a centre of theological science on the territory of Galicia were examined. It is specially noted that academy activities were significant and the main emphasis was made on the question of constant improvement not only educational process like in European Catholic Universities but on the increase of the scientific level of future Greek-Catho- lic clergy. The article gives a detaled analysis of the main forms of educational work carried out in this educational institution during 20-30 years XX century. The results of work of its faculty teaching staff and students on practical classes were studied. The organization of ten scientific-practical seminars at each department became an important aspect in this direction. Such as dogmatic, biblical, law, history of Ukrainian Church, homiletic, catechetical, history of Ukraine, history of art, sociological and seminar in church Slavonic language. In the researcher*s opinion, the activity of such-like practical classes contributed to the increase of scientific products and students training not only for work on the pastor field, but formed them as professional scientists in the theological branch of activity. Scientific seminars became inseparable and significant part of educational and scientific work. All the seminars improved the knowledge of students, educated the study of cultural and historic heritage of native people. Students got experience how to compose texts of sermons correctly and skillfully proclaim them, analyzed the- ological materials, church and family law, ancient historic texts, visually learnt the art of native land and found out ancient relict, studied to make their description, scientific-inventory examination of new arrivals, in particular their art analysis, took part in the excavation on the territory of Galicia. It was proved, that in spite of lack of money, the results of the scientific work of young clergy were found out during all the time of their realization. It all contributed that some of these seminars had their magazines, such as «Art and Culture», «Word», «Archive of the Seminar of the History of Church at Greek-Catholic Academy in Lviv». The best students had the opportunity to publicize the results of them researches there. The conclusion is made that scientific seminars justified hopes of the Academy Leadership and its faculty teaching staff. At the same time, they had great positive influence on the educational and scientific work, prepared some of the outstanding church and secular figures who were well-known figures of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and culture.
