Semantic and Functional Parameters of Germanisms in the Artistic Discourse of Ivan Franko

Abstract
Problem definition. The article deals with investigation of lexical borrowings from German language in the literary texts of Ivan Franko. The analysis of semantic composition and functional features of germanisms are made there, their stylistic potential in the Ukrainian language is also determined in the article. Object of the research. The material of research has become short stories of Ivan Franko: "Dva pryiateli" (1877), "Muliar" (1878), "Sam sobi vynen" (1880), "Na dni" (1880), "Na vershku" (1880), "Vuhliar" (1909). Approaches. The germanisms were selected from the works by continuous selection and cross-cutting analysis, the main part of them are nouns, rarely – adjectives and verbs. Conclusion. Certain group of borrowings in the vocabulary of the Ukrainian language consists of Germanisms. The borrowings from other languages are widespread in the analyzed Franko’s literary works rather confirming their existence in the Ukrainian language, than the author's speech feature or a specific character. The vocabulary of the Ukrainian language is heterogeneous in origin. Different historical, social and cultural changes took place in the language and germanisms expanded and enriched the vocabulary of the Ukrainian in Galicia, entered the literary language of writers in different genres and texts.
