Simulation Study on the Effect of Different Reactor Schemes and Operating Conditions to Produce Gasoline by Naphtha Catalytic Reforming: Case Study of “X” Petroleum Refinery
Journal Title: Libyan Journal of Engineering Science and Technology - Year 2024, Vol 4, Issue 1
Abstract
The catalytic reforming process in gasoline production holds significant importance within the petroleum industry. Given its relevance, the primary focus of this study revolves around enhancing gasoline yield. Utilizing Aspen Hysys and Aspen Plus, the study aims to simulate gasoline enhancement through catalytic reforming. Specifically, it evaluates the impact of incorporating a third liquid phase reactor in the series on yield and production rate. The simulation outcomes closely align, with a deviation of less than 10% from plant data. With the validated model, further simulations explore various reactor configurations and operating conditions. Results indicate that aromatic yield escalates with rising reaction temperature and residence time, while reactor pressure demonstrates minimal influence on yield. In conclusion, integrating a liquid phase reactor into the catalytic reforming series holds promise for boosting gasoline yield and octane number. However, this approach necessitates adherence to more stringent operating conditions, with due consideration for safety protocols.
