Simultaneous Spectrophotometric Determination of Copper and Lead in Natural water samples and industrial effluents in Micellar Media by the H-Point Standard Addition Method (HPSAM)

Abstract

H-point standard addition method (HPSAM) was developed for simultaneous determination of copper (II) and lead (II) ions in micellar media. The Alizarin red S (ARS) is used as chromogenic reagent for complexes formation of copper (II) and lead (II) ions. The measurements were carried out using Tween-80 as a micellizing agent, in buffered solution at pH 5.5 .The linearity obtained in the range of 0.317-7.62 µg/ml of copper and 0.345 -6.14 µg/ml of lead respectively. The results of applying H-point standard addition method show that Cu (II) and Pb(II) ions can be determined simultaneously with concentration ratio of 11:1 and 1: 20 of copper to lead. The proposed procedures have been applied successfully for the simultaneous determination of copper and lead in synthetic binary mixtures, some natural water samples and industrial effluents.
