Journal Title: Нові сторінки історії Донбасу - Year 2016, Vol 25, Issue

Abstract

"The Great Terror" in the USSR in 1937–1938 is one of the most tragic pages in the history of the twentieth century, which now have a discussion, and in some as-pects little studied, despite the availability of certain archival materials. This also applies to the question of influence of Soviet propaganda on society, its manifesta-tions and further transformation. Therefore, the aim of this article is to show the "Big Terror" through the eyes of its customers, the ideologues and the victims using immediate publication of newspapers of republican and local significance. The author examines the influence of Soviet propaganda on the moral and politi-cal atmosphere of society during the "The Great Terror" on the example of publica-tions and notes, first of all "Communist" newspaper, "Bolshevik", "News" and other Ukrainian and regional media on the background of the show trials of 1937–1938, mainly on the example of "The Case of Trotskyist Anti-Soviet Organization" in ear-ly 1937. Specific examples illustrate the nature of the repressive policies of the Stalinist regime, which has used the media as a propaganda mechanism on the impact of the population not only in Ukraine and in the whole USSR. Thus the result of the study is to demonstrate the relation of the Soviet propagan-da of the Stalinist terror in relation people's attitudes to what is happening around them and to the people around them in the years of the "The Great Terror".
