Sports Management Operation and Physical Education Curriculum Delivery of Public Secondary Schools in CALABARZON: Basis in Crafting Physical Education Curriculum Development Program
Journal Title: Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal - Year 2025, Vol 33, Issue 7
Abstract
This study examined the sports management operation and physical education curriculum delivery in public secondary schools in DepEd Region IV-A CALABARZON, aiming to develop a structured Physical Education (PE) Curriculum Development Program. Specifically, the research investigated five key areas of sports management operation: sports service-related management, sports product-related management, facility-production management, non-facility-based management, and funding support. Likewise, PE curriculum delivery was analyzed across physical resources, human resources, instructional materials, teaching strategies, and assessment and evaluation methods to determine its effectiveness. Using a descriptive research design, data were collected through a structured checklist questionnaire from 150 respondents (15 school heads and 135 PE teachers). Spearman’s rho correlation analysis revealed a strong positive correlation (r = 0.83) between sports management operation and PE curriculum delivery, indicating that well-structured sports management significantly enhances curriculum implementation. The findings further highlighted that administrators and PE teachers demonstrated strong practices in sports management, particularly in facility maintenance, resource allocation, program implementation, and financial planning. In curriculum delivery, high ratings were observed in assessment and evaluation (mean = 3.81), instructional materials (mean = 3.78), and teaching strategies (mean = 3.77), reflecting an effective approach to student engagement and learning outcomes. Despite these strengths, challenges such as infrastructure limitations, teacher training gaps, and the need for updated curriculum strategies were identified. Addressing these issues requires a multifaceted approach, including improving sports infrastructure, enhancing professional development for educators, and promoting inclusive curriculum content. The proposed PE curriculum development program, formulated based on the study’s findings, aims to provide a structured, adaptable framework for improving sports management and curriculum delivery in secondary schools and can be expanded for broader implementation upon further validation.
