Abstract
У статті розглядається сформований у буддизмі образ ста-рості («джари»); проаналізовано ставлення буддистів до довго-ліття та життєвого досвіду літніх осіб; досліджено трансфор-мації геронтократичних традицій та культу предків у ранньому буддизмі, а також школах чань і дзен; виявлено специфіку сто-сунків буддистів зі старими та старшими, особливості виконання синівського обов’язку; з’ясовано сутність осмислення старості як стимулу, що спонукає на початок релігійної практики; окреслено потенціал останнього періоду життя людини для прямування ду-ховним шляхом буддиста
