STUDIU PRIVIND DISTRIBUŢIA SPAŢIALĂ A OICONIMULUI BEREVOIEŞTI
Journal Title: Geographia Napocensis - Year 2011, Vol 0, Issue 2
Abstract
Since medieval times, on the territories of both Wallachia and Transylvania there have been certified villages whose names derived from Berivoi anthroponim. While the name has diversified in terms of grammatical form (Berivoi, Berevoescu, Berivoieşti, etc.) it was attributed to a greater number of geographic components, from mountains and hills to rivers and simple estates. Settlements bearing the Slavic name Berivoi have many similarities regarding age, location and position in relation to major trade routes. These testimonies come in addition to the assumption that Berivoieşti villages were founded in Wallachia by shepherds who came from Făgăraş County. This study aims to highlight the spatial distribution of place names derived from Berivoi and to distinguish the links between the settlements from north and south of the Carpathians with the same or similar names.
