STUDY ON APPLICABILITY OF MATHEMATICAL - AUXOLOGICAL MODEL FOR DETERMINING THE VOLUME OF OAK FOREST STANDS LOCATED WITHIN THE SOMES RIVER BASIN

Abstract

The law that government the growth and development of the forest trees were studied through statistical methods designed for population's research. Those researches prove the possibility to formulate a mathematical - auxological model for even aged forest stands. Such a model is understood as a set of mathematical statistical and logical relationships, which describe the evolution of a complex variable characteristic of forest stands from auxological point of view. To know the limits of models that form the basis for yield tables it was made a study about biometric characteristics of forest stands in the Somes River Basin. The results were compared then with the data from appropriate yield tables. The results show that the volumes determined with continuous cruise deviate from the corresponding volumes of yield tables within the [-37% ... 19%] density index for the studied forest stands is strongly correlated with volume index, the linear correlation coefficient between the two indices having the value 0,98.
