Study on dispersion stability and coating properties from water-thinnable acrylic compositions

Abstract

Water-thinnable paints and coatings containing non-ionic surfactant (a product of Chemical Manufactures in Brzeg Dolny) and organic thickening agent (product of Brenntag Poland) were tested. The sedimentation experiment was a basic test used to determine the stability of water dispersion. The obtained coating compositions were applied by brush on steel, glass and wooden plates and were cured in a temperature of 20°C. The coatings were tested in terms of adhesion, scratch resistance, elasticity, fluid resistance. All the obtained paint samples had very good mechanical properties, and the coatings containing the thickening agent showed better properties. The research allowed to determine the thermomechanical deformation curve.
