СУЧАСНИЙ СТАН РОЗВИТКУ НАУКОВОЇ ДУМКИ З ПРОБЛЕМИ НАВЧАННЯ МАЙБУТНІХ ФІЛОЛОГІВ ПИСЬМОВОГО ПЕРЕКЛАДУ

Abstract
The article analyses the current state of scientific thought on teaching translation to students of language departments. The results of the analysis of papers of the last decade are going to be considered in the process of the development of the methodology of teaching profession specific bilateral translation to student teachers of English in the master's programme. Purpose of the research is to define the methodological problems of teaching translation to students of language departments and their solutions; summarize best practices of researchers; highlight the problems that remain at issue, require reviewing and new approaches in compliance with modern achievements of psychology of language activity, methods of foreign languages and cultures teaching, theory and practice of translation. Methods. Review of practices of Ukrainian and foreign researchers of the last decade dealing with problems of teaching translation to students of language departments. Results. According to the generally held views, theoretical background to the developing methods of teaching translation to students of language departments is scientific excellence in the fields of theory and practice of translation, study of translation competence structure and contents, methods of teaching translation; translation is defined a language activity; the aim of teaching translation is the development of competence in translation. Researchers succeeded in: determining psycholinguistic features of the process of translation as well as translator’s activity in terms of intercultural communication; identifying stylistic features of texts that are the subject of study in translation learning; selecting materials; developing learning activities and assessment criteria for target text; shaping motivation to master translation. However, although some attempts to determine the components of competence in translation are made, there is no consensus on its structure and contents among researchers. In particular, there are differences regarding the number and range of content components, terminological diversity, mixing the contents of certain concepts. Conclusion. Methodological problems of teaching translation to students of language departments which require reviewing and new approaches are: definition, structure and contentsof competence in translation; range of knowledge, skills, communicative abilities and attitudes; levels of translation proficiency, its assessment criteria and diagnostic tools; learning activities for all the translation competence components development and improvement.
