SYNTHESIS OF NEW THIAZOLIDINE-2,4-DIONE DERIVATIVES AND THEIR ANTIMICROBIAL AND ANTITUBERCULAR ACTIVITY
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Research in Pharmacy and Biotechnology - Year 2013, Vol 1, Issue 4
Abstract
New 1,3-thiazolidine-2,4-dione (TZD) derivatives 16-29 have been prepared by Knoevenagel condensation reaction between TZD and aromatic aldehydes followed by condensation with 3,4- dichloro benzoyl chloride. The structures of the newly synthesized compounds were assigned on the basis of elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectral data. All the synthesized compounds were tested for antibacterial activity against Gram-positive cocci and Gram-negative rods, antifungal activity and antitubercular activity. Moderate to good activity results were found for the newly synthesized compounds.
