Tapping into E-Learning for Translation Student Training and Job Market Preparation

Journal Title: In Translation / في الترجمة - Year 2022, Vol 9, Issue 1

Abstract

The very first thing that pops into our minds before such an expression: “E-Learning” is all sorts of Internet applications and how teachers and students engage in e-classrooms explaining and interacting, interchangeably. This topic has invited many researchers to conduct studies treating didactics, in general, and translation teaching, in particular. These studies unveiled the pros and cons of teaching translation online, today. Translation students are of great concern to our study. One wonders whether these students are ready to ace the job market having earned their degree at the end of this "online training". Therefore, the present research paper attempts to table a number of e-courses that goes hand in hand with market demands. Chief among them is to assign students to work in groups on what is known as "Translation Projects," where they will play different roles: translator, proofreader, editor, project manager, and so forth. Such activity requires professional supervision (the teacher's). A second proposition would be SDL e-tutorials. A third would be translation practice by doing a collaborative translation of a book of their choice to be evaluated and graded.
