Targeted Agents and Resistance Mechanism in Renal Cell Cancer
Journal Title: The Bulletin of Urooncology - Year 2019, Vol 18, Issue 2
Abstract
Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) exhibits multidrug resistance protein P-glycoprotein expression due to the proximal tubular origin and in this regard, it is resistant to a large number of cytotoxic chemotherapy. The identification of the molecular pathogenesis, genetics, and epigenetics of RCC has led to new target points such as vascular endothelial growth factor. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors have been used mainly for treatment, but recently, immune checkpoint inhibitors have also been used in the treatment of RCC. Despite these treatments, response rates are not sufficient in the majority of patients. Primary resistance or acquired resistance to the treatment might be seen. Defining these resistance mechanisms will contribute to the management of the treatment and will help in to identify new treatment targets. In this review, we focus on the molecular mechanisms and resistance mechanisms of targeted-therapy.

Preoperative and Postoperative Gleason Score Correlation of Patients Who Underwent Radical Prostatectomy
Objective: We aimed to report the consistency between transrectal needle biopsy (TRNB) Gleason scores (GSs) and prostatectomy specimen GSs based on upgrading and downgrading rates. Materials and Methods: Data of patient...
Role of Tissue Markers on Predicting the Prognosis of Intermediate and High-risk Non-muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer
Objective: Investigating the recurrence of high-risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer patients with the phosphohistone H3 (PPH3), P53, and Ki-67 as a predictive markers. Materials and Methods: A total of 46 patients w...
Contemporary Trends in Adrenal Sparing Surgery
Adrenal gland surgery has been practiced by the urologists ever increasingly in line with their interest in this particular field. Total adrenalectomy which is the classical approach for adrenal masses, is replaced by th...
Evaluating the Effects of Different Ischaemia Techniques on Functional Outcomes of Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the influence of different ischaemia techniques on short-term and one year renal function following laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (LPN). Materials and Methods: Data of 359 p...
Evaluation of General Features of Patients with Testicular Cancer
Objective: Testicular cancers (Tca) are most common in men aged 20-34. Despite the increase in its incidence, the mortality rate from Tca decreases. In our study, it was aimed to evaluate the general characteristics, the...
