Targeting Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide and its Receptor by Monoclonal Antibody, New Developments in the Prevention of Migraine
Journal Title: Neuro – Open Journal - Year 2015, Vol 2, Issue 3
Abstract
Migraine is a chronic headache disorder with an unknown pathophysiology. Research in the past decade has shown that to be a brain disorder, a dismodulation of sensory processing affecting vascular tone and pain1-3 but since the exact pathomechanism of migraine is not very well known, its treatment is also difficult. Current drugs recommended by the “European Federation of Neurological Societies (EFNS)” used in the treatment of migraine include the triptan family drugs that are serotonin (5-HT1B/D) receptor agonists, and the Non-Steroid Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs).4 Several other drugs such as anti-epileptic drugs, beta-blockers, and calcium channel blockers are also recommended in the treatment of migraine.4

Neuromodulation and Non-Pharmacological Treatment of Migraine
Migraine is a chronic brain disorder that is believed to be due to dysfunction of the brain and brainstem that result in dysmodulation of sensory processing of the head and vascular tone. The exact pathomechanism of migr...
Intra-Abdominal Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt Abscess from Streptococcus Pyogenes after Pharyngitis with Scarlet Fever: Case Report and Review of the Literature
Objective: Infection is one of the most frequent complications of ventriculoperitoneal shunts. However, Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A Streptococcus, GAS) as a causative agent appears to be extremely rare. We present an...
Immunomodulatory Effects of Mesenchymal Stem Cells on T- and B-Cells in a Quiescent State in a Chronic Experimental Model of Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis
Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an immune-mediated disease affecting the central nervous system (CNS). Many drugs have been tested in animal models of MS (e.g., Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis (EAE))....
Acute Polyneuropathy in Children with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia: Case Report and Systemic Review of the Literature
Acute polyneuropathy in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia is extremely rare, but its onset and association with Guillain-Barré syndrome presents a diagnostic challenge. We report a 5-year-old boy who presented w...
Neuromodulation in the Treatment of Migraine: Progress in Nerve Stimulation
Migraine is a type of primary headache disorder that can become chronic and disabling. The exact pathomechanism of migraine is not known very well and its treatment is also difficult in some cases. There are several medi...
