Teachers' displaying levels of value eroding behaviors<p>Öğretmenlerin değerleri zedeleyen davranışları gösterme düzeyleri

Abstract
Being a role model for students is closely associated with teachers’ values. If teachers lack the values required for educational activities, they cannot be a good model to their students and might lead to the dying-away or even disappearance of the values that students already have. The main purpose of this study is to determine at what levels teachers display behaviors that erode values and to investigate these values in terms of different variables. The research sample, determined through the stratified sampling method, included 157 primary, 171 secondary and 148 high school teachers. The research data was collected using the “Scale of Teacher Behaviors Damaging Values”. The scale consists of 27 items and five factors. The results of the study indicated that teachers’ levels of exhibiting behaviours that erode values were low, which means that teachers had high levels of positive values. According to the Kruskal-Wallis test; in relation to the school type, teachers’ levels of displaying behaviours that erode values differed significantly in the total score and in the dimensions of “student discrimination” and “patience and sincerity”. According to the Mann-Whitney U test, it was revealed that teachers’ levels of displaying behaviours that erode values did not show a significant difference in the total score and in all sub-dimensions in terms of gender. According to the Kruskal-Wallis test; concerning seniority, “patience and sincerity” was the only dimension where a significant difference was found. Various proposals have been developed according to the findings of the research. ÖzetÖğretmenlerin tutum ve davranışlarıyla öğrencilere iyi örnek olabilmeleri sahip oldukları değerlerle yakından ilişkilidir. Öğretmen, öğretim programında yer alan ve evrensel değerler olarak kabul edilen değerlere sahip değilse, öğrencilerine iyi bir model olamayacağı gibi öğrencilerde bulunan mevcut değerlerin körelmesine hatta ortadan kalkmasına bile sebep olabilecektir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, öğretmenlerin değerleri zedeleyici davranışları gösterme düzeylerinin belirlenmesi ve bu düzeylerin farklı değişkenlere göre incelenmesidir. 2015-2016 eğitim öğretim yılında Düzce il merkezinde görev yapan 157 ilkokul öğretmeni, 171 ortaokul öğretmeni ve 148 lise öğretmeni araştırmanın örneklemini oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri “Değerleri Zedeleyen Öğretmen Davranışları Ölçeği” aracılığı ile toplanmıştır. Ölçek 27 maddeden ve beş alt boyuttan oluşmaktadır. Araştırma bulguları, öğretmenlerin olumlu değerlere sahip olma düzeylerinin yüksek olduğunu göstermektedir. Kruskal Wallis testi sonucuna göre; öğretmenlerin değerleri zedeleyen davranışları gösterme düzeylerinin görev yaptıkları öğretim kademelerine göre toplam puanda, “öğrencilere ayrımcılık” boyutunda ve “sabır ve samimiyet” boyutunda anlamlı farklılık gösterdiği ortaya çıkmıştır. Mann Whitney U testi sonucunda cinsiyetin, öğretmenlerin değerleri zedeleyen davranışları gösterme düzeylerini etkilemediği görülmüştür. Yine yapılan Kruskal Wallis testi sonucuna göre; öğretmenlerin değerleri zedeleyen davranışları gösterme düzeylerinin kıdemlerine göre sadece “sabır ve samimiyet” boyutunda anlamlı farklılık gösterdiği görülmüştür. Araştırma sonunda ortaya çıkan bulgulara göre çeşitli öneriler geliştirilmiştir.
