Technology strategy formulation for biofuel production

Journal Title: Journal of Science and today’s world - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 2

Abstract

The increase in prices of fossil fuels and high level of pollution in the environment has encouraged human to use clean (environmentally friendly) fuels. Many developed and developing countries have seriously studies the biofuel-related technologies and have dedicated significant sums of money in their budgets to research, development and commercialization of biofuels. A significant point that should be noted is that there are strategies used for developing this technology that are sometimes different in different countries and they are generally the result of multiple factors such as different goals and needs of technology development, environmental (opportunities and threats) and internal (strengths and weaknesses) conditions in countries. Iran has significant resources of oil and natural gas. However, preserving the resources and protecting the environment are two major goals that should be paid attention to by government and policymakers. Therefore, investment in renewable energies including biofuel seems necessary. The biofuel obtained from microalgae is more preferable than other clean fuels due to high efficiency, minimum pollution, high Cute, existence of oxygen and etc. Therefore, key technologies related to biofuel production are of a higher priority, in terms of investment. Considering what has been pointed out, it is necessary to create a detailed program for development of these technologies in Iran considering Iran’s conditions (environmental and geographical conditions, internal strengths and weaknesses). For this purpose, a project called “technology strategy formulation for biofuel production from microalgae” was defined and implemented. The process of technology strategy formulation for biofuel production and the results have been discussed in detail in this study.
