The Committed Values and the Preferred Course of Study in the Light of Conducted Survey Research among High School Graduates from Słupsk

Journal Title: Theory and Practice of Social Systems Management - Year 2016, Vol 1, Issue 1

Abstract

This paper is devoted to analysis of the relationships between indicated systems of values and preferred fields of study among students in “matura” grades Secondary analyzed data were taken from the study “School graduates Słupsk 2016” carried out by sociologists from the Pomeranian Academy The study sample consisted of 678 people Systems of values were measured using the “Scale of the conditions of a happy life” (used in the Diagnoza społeczna) and a set of questions about the most important life aspirations and goals from Stefan Nowak’s Kielce-Warsaw study The analysis showed significant differences in preferences by gender of respondent and poor relationships between the declared values and preferred fields of study It also enables to formulate a hypothesis that the declared aspirations and goals are far better (at least at the level of “façade validity”) predictions of choice of fields of study than the indicated conditions for a successful life
