THE CONCEPT OF PHONETIC LAW IN V. K. ZHURAVLEV’S STUDIO

Abstract
The article presents linguistic historiographical analysis the concepts of linguists of XIX–XX centuries, which reflect views on the nature and mechanism of action of phonetic laws in the sound language system, in the light of contemporary phonological representations. The special attention was paid to the theory of the outstanding Russian linguist V. K. Zhuravlev, justifying the importance of the phenomenon of phonetic law and the need to establish the corresponding phonetic laws in historical periods of development of the phonetic language system. The discovery of the formula of the phonetic law is achievement of V. K. Zhuravlev, this is result of processing and rethinking the scientific heritage of its predecessors. In the article also analyzed the linguist’s theses about need of the accounting close relationship of synchrony and diachrony. This view of the development of the language system gave understanding of the necessity of phonetic laws and allophonic variation reconstruction in the process of studying the history of the phonetic language system.
