The effect of PTSA on preparation of mesophase carbon spheres
Journal Title: Carbon - Science and Technology - Year 2009, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
Mesophase spheres have been synthesized by heat-treating a medium coal tar pitch at 420 ºC for 2 hours in the presence of P-toluene sulphonic acid (PTSA). The effect of PTSA on synthesis of mesophase spheres had been studied. It was found that PTSA promotes the formation of mesophase spheres in coal tar pitch through accelerating polymerization of aromatic hydrocarbons. PTSA content between 3 and 5 wt. % gave similar size spheres, beyond which as the PTSA content increases, the size of spheres increases. 5 wt. % PTSA gives uniform spheres with small size, good spherical shape and smooth surface.

Effect of thermoplastic polyurethane content on properties of PC/TPU blend filled with Montmorillonite
The present study was taken up to investigate the effect of addition of Montmorillonite (MMT) to Poly carbonate/Thermoplastic polyurethane (PC/TPU) blends. A master batch of PC/MMT (70/30) was prepared using Hake Rheomix...
Biogas slurry – An alternative growth media for algae cultivation in algiculture systems with simultaneous reduction algal predation
Biogas slurry provides a complete and high growth rate producing algal cultivation medium thus offsetting the high cultivation costs of raising algal cultures in synthetic growth media. Robust mixed algal consortia can a...
Methane storage in a commercial activated carbon
A commercial activated carbon was examined for possible methane storage application. The structural and surface properties of the carbon were characterized by Nitrogen adsorption isotherm at 77 oK. It was found that the...
Investigations on thermal properties, stress and deformation of Al/SiC metal matrix composite based on finite element method
AlSiC is a metal matrix composite which comprises of aluminium matrix with silicon carbide particles. It is characterized by high thermal conductivity (180-200 W/m K), and its thermal expansion are attuned to match other...
Plane-Wave Excitation and Electromagnetic Response of Graphene : Non-Linear Effects
In graphene, the two-dimensional electrons and holes are described by the Dirac equation with a vanishing effective mass. As a consequence, under particular operative conditions, the electromagnetic response of graphene...
