THE EFFECTS OF AGRONOMIC FACTORS ON THE ECONOMIC EFFICIENCY OF BLACK CUMIN PRODUCTION
Journal Title: Acta Scientiarum Polonorum – Agricultura - Year 2018, Vol 17, Issue 2
Abstract
Background. Black cumin (Nigella sativa L.) known for its health benefits, can be grown under various production technologies associated with different production costs. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the economic profitability of black cumin cultivation under different agronomic conditions in north-eastern Europe. Material and methods. The experiment had a fractional factorial and completely randomized design, with four replications. Nigella sativa L. was grown in integrated farming system during a two-year field experiment. The analysis of economic effectiveness was calculated according to agricultural accounting standards. Results. The highest income of 627.10 USD·ha-1 was achieved in the treatment involving mechanical weed control. The highest profitability index was noted in treatments with seed dressing and no pathogen control during the growing season, and with mechanical weed control (1.46 and 1.56, respectively). Conclusion. The agronomic efficiency of black cumin was low. The most profitable production system involved the latest seeding date, inter-row spacing of 30 cm and mechanical weed control. Total costs ranged from 1077.32 to 1177.32 USD·ha-1.

EFFECT OF FERTILIZATION OF WINTER SPELT WHEAT WITH MICRONUTRIENTS AND AMINO ACID PREPARATIONS ON PHYTOPHAGOUS INSECTS
Background. In Poland there is a growing interest in winter spelt wheat cultivation. There are not many detailed studies on phytophagous entomofauna. Cereal leaf beetles and grain aphids are major pests of cereal crops....
PRODUCTIVITY OF SELECTED VARIETIES OF MAIZE (Zea mays L.) IN ORGANIC AND INTEGRATED SYSTEMS
Background. In recent years there has been increased interest in the possibilities for maize cultivation in organic farms. The development of organic agriculture is a global trend. Growing maize through organic agricultu...
INFLUENCE OF SEED TREATMENTS AND FOLIAR INSECTICIDES USED AGAINST Oscinella frit L. IN MAIZE ON THE POPULATION OF THRIPS
Background. Thrips constitute a group of common maize pests in Poland. Although in recent years their population and harmfulness in maize fields have increased, they are still not covered by chemical control due to the l...
CHANGES IN YIELD, LEAF AREA AND FLUORESCENCE CHLOROPHYLL PARAMETERS OF DIFFERENT FORAGE GRASSES CULTIVARS UNDER DROUGHT STRESS
The aim of the study was to assess the effects of water deficit on yield, leaf area and fluorescence chlorophyll parameters of forage grasses. The pot experiment was conducted in 2013 in IUNG-PIB’s greenhouse in Puławy....
THE EVALUATION OF SOIL SEED BANK IN TWO Arrhenatherion MEADOW HABITATS IN CENTRAL POLAND
Abstract. Too intensive management by mowing or grazing or cessation of management both lead to the floristic impoverishment of meadow communities. Soil seed bank can play an essential role in the ecological restoration...
