THE EFFECTS OF CREATIVE DRAMA ACTIVITIES CONSTRUCTED WITH SAMED BEHRENGI BOOKS ON THE WRITING SKILLS AND ATTITUDES OF STUDENTS

Abstract

The general purpose of this study is to reveal the effect of creative drama activities constructed with Samed Behrengi books on the writing skills of students. The quasi-experimental model with pre-test post-test control group is used in this study. The study is executed with was totally 44 students with 23 students in experimental group and 21 students in control group, who are in the third class students of Saime Özçürümez Primary School in Tarsus, Mersin under the Fall Semester 2013-2014. The quantitative data for the writing skills of students are obtained by “ The composition evaluation scale” developed by Sever (2004) and “ The attitude scale related to writing activities” developed by Kırmızı (2009). The measurement technique of the researches in the experimental and the control group is used as both pre-test and post-test. The obtained quantative data is analyzed with SPSS program. According to the findings from research data, it is seen that both writing skills and the writing attitudes of students significantly increase in statistical manner when the creative drama activities constructed with Samed Behrengi books applied to the experimental group compared to the activities with plain text applied to control group students. After having the study result evaluated, it is observed that the literary text, one of the main method of teaching the values and niceties of Turkish language, and creative drama method making the students actively participated to the lessons develops the writing skills and the writing attitudes of the students. Based on these results, various proposal has been presented to use of creative drama as a method.
