Abstract

he competitive opportunities and threats posed by the global economy have contributed to the consolidation of the importance of establishing the principles of professional corporate governance organizations, with the aim of formulating a strategy to enable them to prosper. Also, for this allows them to attract more investment at a lower cost, and raises ways to protect shareholders. This applies not only to businesses but also to banks, given the essential role they play in the economy. This research aims to clarify the benefits of applying the principles of corporate governance in banks, then the implications of these principles on the performance of commercial banks, and based on a descriptive approach, to determine the importance of commercial banks in the economy, the definition of governance and the various principles listed. In addition, and through an analytical approach, we proceeded to the interpretation of the financial statements of the Bank of Abu Dhabi, which tried to enhance bank profits by applying the principles of corporate governance. All this leads to several conclusions, the most important of which, and that the principles of governance applied to banks can only be profitable for them but also for their clients
