The general purposes of the educational programme of a foreign language in the secondary schools in Poland: the strategies, skills and approaches

Abstract
The article focuses on the analysis of the general purposes of an educational programme of a foreign language in the secondary schools in Poland, in particular: the general purposes that include an individual approach to the development of knowledge and skills of pupils taking into account their talents and interests, and also the development of the skills of a social behaviour: the cultural self-identification and the certain rules of communication in every day life as well as in the professional life. The author singles out the interdisciplinary approach, which implies the formulation of the conversational topic connected with the school disciplines (geography, biology, history and etc.); and singles out the intercultural competence: the interests and openness of pupils concerning the different cultures and the ability to comprehend the similarities and differences among these cultures; the article deals with the description of pupils’ skills in four types of activity.
