The Genesis of Sexual Function Disorders due to Organic Causes in End-Stage Renal Disease Patients under Hemodialysis

Journal Title: Caspian Journal of Applied Sciences Research - Year 2013, Vol 2, Issue 2

Abstract

Sexual function disorders (SFD) are common among End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment. The dysfunction of sexual activity in the patients group is a multi-factorial phenomenon. Although SFD are originated from different roots, primary causes of sexual dysfunction (SD) are organic in patients with Chronic Kidney Diseases (CKD). Uremic milieu, all of peripheral neurovascular complications due to some systemic diseases, hormonal changes, and some medications can lead to sexual difficulties in these patients. In this paper, we review the organic causes of SFD in CKD patients to provide a better understanding of the nature of the sexual function problems in End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients on hemodialysis therapeutic option.
