THE GIS DATABASE OF THE MAIN GROUNDWATER RESERVOIRS – METHODOLOGICAL ASSUMPTIONS, THE PRESENT DEVELOPMENT

Journal Title: Biuletyn Państwowego Instytutu Geologicznego - Year 2011, Vol 445, Issue 445

Abstract

At present there is ongoing all Poland research project ordered by the National Water Management Authority to document the protection areas for 101 Main Groundwater Reservoirs (MGR). Documentations of the protection areas are to be elaborated in three stages in years 2009–2015. One of the results of these works will be the map of the MGR protection areas – the areas with different forms of the protection like bans, orders and limitations in land or water use to protect resources of these reservoirs. The paper shows the present stage of works aimed at the preparation of the GIS database with the MGR protection areas. This database run by the Polish Hydrogeological Survey will be the major tool in the MGR protection areas introduction by the directors of the Regional Water Management Authorities as well as for the presentation of the information on the MGR.
