Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2017, Vol 10, Issue 50

Abstract

As it is known, Turkish has a very rich material in terms of phrases, especially idioms. For this reason, the phrases have always attracted and still attract the attention of the researchers. This study focused on idioms in Turkey Turkish which include sense organs (nose, skin, tongue, eyes and ears). After the idioms are specified, these phrases are classified according to their positive and negative characteristics in the study. Thus, it has been determined which sensory organs are used in positive sense or negative sense, and/or in which situations the same sensory organ is used in a negative way and in which situation it has a positive meaning. So far, many studies have been done on idioms. However, there are not enough comparative studies on the idioms formed by sense organs and their meaning features. Therefore, we think that this study will contribute the field with the previous researches.
