The Influence of the Design Flow Rate on the Economical and Ecological Aspects of SHP - Small Hydropower Plants

Abstract

The negative impacts of the design flow rate, as one of the most significant design parameters of SHP, are analyzed. It is shown that the negative influence of this parameter on the local as well as on state level is mainly underestimated and not presented transparently. It is clear from the given examples that this influence strongly depends on the national strategies in the SHP developments. It is also shown that the design flow rate can have as strong environmental impacts as the reserved flow rate. The real impact on the final consumer prices of electrical energy of the design flow rate is also analyzed and some recommendations how to reduce the negative influence presented.
