Abstract

In this research, it is aimed to examine the academic procrastination tendencies of prospective teachers, and to examine these tendencies based on the variables of gender, grade level, the type of graduated high school, success perception and preferences of attendance and absence for the classes. The investigation is a descriptive study in general scanning as it states the views of prospective teachers. The universe of the investigation is composed of N=2976 prospective teachers studying at the Faculty of Education at Amasya University in the academic year of 2013-2014. The investigation was conducted on the sampling selected from the universe. The proportional stratified sampling method was used in selecting the sampling of the investigation, and data were collected from n=348 prospective teachers. The personal information form and “Procrastination Tendency Scale” which was developed by Aitken (1982), and adapted into Turkish by Balkıs (2006) were used as data collecting means in the research in order to determine the knowledge about the demographical characteristics of the prospective teachers. SPSS 20 software package was used in the solution of the data. The average points of the academic procrastination tendencies of prospective teachers are significantly differentiated based on the variables of gender, grade level, the type of graduated high school, success perception and preferences of attendance and absence for the classes. However, the academic procrastination tendencies of prospective teachers haven’t shown a significant diversity based on the departments at which they are studying.
