The Islamic State from the Perspective of the “London Review of Books” – Selected Aspects

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to analyze the Islamic State from the point of view of the prestigious English journal, the “London Review of Books”. The article contains four parts: firstly, the author describes the circumstances of the rising of Sunni jihadism in Iraq after the American-led invasion in 2003; then paper is focused on the relationship between the Baath party regime in Syria and Sunni extremists; the third part is devoted to the use of chemical weapons in Syria in August of 2013; and the last section delineates the Turkish role in the conflicts in Iraq and Syria. In conclusion, the author draws attention to the larger problems within the Muslim community in the Middle East
