This study is carried on with the objective of determining the opinion of university students who are enrolled in the departments related to health about early marriage and child brides. Study is a descriptive study conducted between February and March 2016. The study was completed with 477 students who educated in the field of health at Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University and approved participating to the study. The data were collected by a questionnaire form prepared by researchers for early marriages and child brides. According to results of the study %71.5 of the students indicate that religious rules and traditions have to be considered in defining the daily life of a woman and %90.1 of them indicate that the duty of a woman is not caring for children and doing housework. %24.5 defines the concept of child brides as “girls who marry by force” and %88.1 of them consider early marriage as a way of exploitation. In the study, %94.5 do not approve of having sexual affair before marriage and %94.1 do not approve of early marriage. Students define family structure, education level and culture as the reasons for early marriage respectively (%78.8,%58.9,%54.3). %83.2 is of the opinion that families should be educated in order to stop early marriage. Early marriages and child brides are a serious social problem with social, legal, physical and psychological dimensions. In this context, joint efforts should be made in the field of health, sociology, law and non-governmental organizations in order to prevent early marriages. Particularly, individuals who educated and work in the field of health care should assume the role of educating individuals, families and communities about the risks of early marriages and child brides.
