The Prevalence of Campylobacter spp. and Occurrence of Virulence Genes Isolated from Dogs
Journal Title: Polish Journal of Microbiology - Year 2015, Vol 64, Issue 1
Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of Campylobacter spp. isolated from dogs’ faecal samples. From June 2012 to June 2013, a total of 210 faecal samples from pet dogs living in different kennels (n = 210) were collected by the owners in Greater Poland Voivodeship, Poznań District, Poland. The study revealed that 105 out of 210 faecal samples (50%) contained Campylobacter. The highest prevalence of Campylobacter spp. occurred in spring (81%), followed by winter (64%). The cadF gene was found in 100% of the isolates tested. The occurrence of the other genes was variable. The isolates from young dogs were characterised by higher occurrence of virulence genes.

The Prevalence of Exoenzyme S Gene in Multidrug-Sensitive and Multidrug-Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa Clinical Strains
Pseudomonas aeruginosa rods are one of the most commonly isolated microorganisms from clinical specimens, usually responsible for nosocomial infections. Antibiotic-resistant P. aeruginosa strains may present reduced expr...
Antiviral Resistance of Splenocytes in Aged Mice
We compared the susceptibility to viral infection of splenocytes, isolated from young versus old CBA mice, and evaluated the antiviral actions of lactoferrin in splenocytes infected with Encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV)...
Molecular Characterization of the cry Gene profile of Bacillus thuringiensis Isolated from a Caribbean Region of Colombia
In order to characterize native strains of Bacillus thuringiensis of the Colombian Caribbean with toxic effect against insect vectors, 28 samples of bacteria identified as B. thuringiensis were isolated from different so...
Drug resistance and population structure of Mycobacterium tuberculosis Beijing strains isolated in Poland
In total, 1095 Mycobacterium tuberculosis clinical isolates from 282 patients with drug-resistant and 813 with drug-sensitive tuberculosis (TB) in Poland during 2007–2011 were analysed. Seventy-one (6.5%) of...
The Effect of Fe[sub]3[/sub]O[sub]4[/sub] Nanoparticles on Survival of Probiotic Bacteria Lactobacillus acidophilus PCM2499 at Lower pH
This paper presents a description of an experiment in which the survival rate of the probiotic bacteria Lactobacillus acidophilus PCM2499 was increased only due to the presence of Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles...
