The Prophet Muhammad’s Faith in the Pre-Prophethood Period in the Context of the Verses, al-Duha (93/7) and al-Inshirah (94/2)

Journal Title: Marife Dini Araştırmalar Dergisi - Year 2014, Vol 14, Issue 3

Abstract

Pre-prophethood life may be regarded as a preparatory to the subsequent period of prophethood. Since the prophets had been charged to correct the societies, they had lived a perfectly clear life before the prophethood and had thus gained trust of the people to whom they had been sent. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) had in this sense been living a pure life away from all kinds of polytheism (al-shirk) before the assignment of the prophethood. However, based upon Qur’anic verses and a number of narrations, interpretations alleging that he had fallen into heresy in the pre-prophethood years have occasionally being made. This article deals with the issue of the guidance bestowed on him when he was found wandering as it is mentioned in the Qur’an with regard to his life before the prophethood days.
