The public green areas of Camagüey; potentialities for environmental education

Abstract

The study aims to determine the educational environmental potentialities of the public green areas of the city of Camagüey, considering its characterization from morphofunctional, socio-cultural, socio-economic, and biological aspects, with an ecosystemic approach. A methodology was designed and applied, contextualized to the unit of study, which combines the selection by representativeness of the sample, through an analysis of geographic information, the bibliographic and documentary review, the application of surveys and interviews with officials, managers and residents, the floristic inventory, the morpho-functional evaluation and of the institutional and social management, as well as a registry of the general phenological state of the trees. The main result is an assessment of the potentialities of public green areas, to develop in the inhabitants of Camagüey a more widespread view of the role of these spaces in the balance and harmony of the urban system and the need for proper use and management of them.
