THE REFLECTIONS OF THE IDEA MOVEMENTS OF THE SECOND CONSTITUTIONAL PERIOD IN ASHÂB-I KEHFIMIZ

Abstract
The Constitutional Era in Turkish history is a period when the radical changes from social life to political life and from art world to world of thought and when a transformation made a new and final move. The basic ideology of this period is Nationalism or, in the strict sense, Turkism. In the following years, this movement which would shape the establishment of the Republic of Turkey was defended with a feeling of being late by intellectuals of that period. As a result of this, westernization still existed a general umbrella but it was declared that especially the idea of Ottomanism was fallen down and that thought of İttihâd-i Islam colud not be a cure for the fall of the state the dominant movement of that period is the nationalism / Turkism. Ömer Seyfettin is amongst the most important nationalist / Turkist intellectuals of the period. Besides his contribution to the shaping of the theoretical plane of the movements by his writings, Ömer Seyfettin had also a great influence on the settlement of Turkism in the language and thus birth of a new art movement. In this study, the aim is to research and interpret the traces of idea movements of the Constitutional monarchy in the text called Ashâb-ı Kehfimiz which was recognized as a novel by Ömer Seyfettin but it shows properties of a long story. Ömer Seyfettin was chosen because he was a remarkable name among the ideologues and artisans of the period. Previously a story not examined in detail, Ashâb-ı Kehfimiz was written in order to especially defend Turkism to announce the fall of Ottomanism and that the thought of İttihâd-i Islam is just a dream. In this regard, with the analysis of this text, it is hoped to contribute to the interpretation of both Ömer Seyfettin and his dominant ideology; and to the examination of the connections between literature, politics and social life.
