THE ROLE AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE MEDIA IN THE PROMOTION OF HEALTHY LIVING: Food porn in the context of health promotion

Abstract
For 40 years we have been observing, on the one hand, the growing popularity of all kinds of diets and fitness programmes, on the other hand – an increase in obesity and eating disorders. Such trends, in the end, contributed to the development of media devoted to food. Because of social media, the importance of food, consumption patterns, and culinary preferences change very quickly, especially in relation to health. On the one hand, food porn includes photographs, images of healthy food. We can speak here about the pro-health trend, with its extreme form – the so-called vegan style. On the other hand, this hashtag is used to promote fast food and unhealthy cuisine (anti-health trend). This phenomenon was analyzed in the context of its impact on eating disorders – obesity and anorexia. Positive aspects, as well as the possibility of using this type of food images in activities promoting healthy eating, are described. Finally, methodological considerations regarding the possibility of researching the phenomenon of food porn and ethical reflections, mainly devoted to the relations of food porn with eating disorders and the negative sexual connotations of this phenomenon related to the pornographic symbolism of photographs are presented.<br/><br/>
