The Strategic Analysis of the Alternative Energy Sources in the context of Polish Energy Security

Abstract
The author presents in his article the main elements of the strategic analysis in the field of possible actions to be taken by the state in order to increase the level of the national security in the energy area. The diagnosis of the current state presented in the first part of the article allows the thesis to put forward that natural gas, which is extracted from the national deposits and is imported from the East, does not guarantee the required level of security in the strategic perspective. In the second part of the article, the author presents the possibility of using alternative energy sources, starting with clean coal technologies and ending with the nuclear power industry.In the context of internal threats and opportunities for Polish energy security, the author concludes that there are three possible directions: to create a single EU internal energy market, to create national potential for diversification of the energy sources and to intensify activities in the use of alternative sources.The external threats are mainly due to the policy of exporters of raw materials, mainly Russia, who treat energy resources as a “strategic weapon”, as well as other factors, e.g. increasing consumption in the booming Polish economy.
