THE STRUCTURE OF THE LIBRARY OF THE RICHELIEU LYCEUM (1817–1865) IN ODESSA

Abstract
The article deals with the structure of the library of the Richelieu Lyceum in Odessa, the first mixed school in the south of Ukraine. Based on archival sources and information from the periodicals of the Richelieu Lyceum, the book collection is regarded as a library institution. The following structural subdivisions were divided into the library of the Richelieu Lyceum: the fundamental library, the student library, the library of the Institute of Oriental Languages, and also the classrooms: the student’s study of books (Pirogov library of students), the office for reading newspapers and magazines, the cabinet for reading professors. The library of the Richelieu Lyceum has passed two main stages connected with the place of the lyceum in the system of educational institutions of the Russian Empire. This is the reason for the emergence of structural units, whose activities were aimed at improving the work of the library institution both in preserving and systematizing books, and in improving the service of readers.
