THE STUDY OF CHILDREN’S PICTURE BOOKS IN TERMS OF CONCEPTS, SUBJECTS AND THEMES FOR SCIENCE

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine children’s picture books in terms of concepts,subjects and themes for science.The study is descriptive with the screening model.The scope of the study is composed of 200 picture books of children with a plot selected by random sampling and analyzed by the researchers.The study group involves 112 books having concepts,subjects and themes related to science.The data of the research were collected by using Concept Control List and Book Analysis Form developed by the researchers and they were analyzed descriptively.At the end of the study,it was determined that the concepts often stressed in the books were sense concepts and the subjects mostly mentioned were animals,and the theme emphasized largely was the recognition of living things.
