The Supervisory Skills of School Administrators in the District of Dumanjug II: Enhancement Training Design

Abstract

This research study aimed to assess the supervisory skills of public elementary and secondary school administrators in the District of Dumanjug II, Division of Cebu Province during the School Year 2022-2023 as basis for an Enhancement Training Design. This study utilized the Descriptive Normative Method using the survey questionnaires to the 351 teachers and 20 school principals. On the respondents’ profile, majority are above 45 years having a percentage of seventy-five. In terms of gender, most of them were female comprising 65 percent. Concerning civil status, most of the subjects were married comprising 90 percent. There were only two 2 or 10 percent of principals who earned units in Doctor of Education- CAR. There are nine or 45 percent who were School Principals/ Head Teacher. Eleven were district coordinators comprising fifty-five percent. Most of the principals have attended trainings and seminars with the average frequency of 55 percent and had teaching experiences more than 25 years and above comprising six or 30 percent. This study shows that most principals have a Moderately Proficient level of supervisory skills obtained an overall score of ( 2.95, 2.6, 2.6. 3.34, 2.76, 3.23, 2.76, 3.23). Statistically, there is no significant difference (0.213, 0.892, 0.356, 0.261, 0.351, 0.881) between the principals’ and teachers’ perception towards the principals’ supervisory skills. Also, there was a significant relationship which obtained a p-value of (0.032, 0.9, 0.226, 0.511, 0.353, 0.173, 0.335, 0.884) in terms of the different aspects with respect to the different criteria. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the level of supervisory skills of the principals is viewed as effective based on the principals’ perspective, but it is viewed as low based on the teachers’ perspective. With the foregoing findings, it is prescribe that principals must continue to improve their supervisory skills. Hence, an “ENHANCEMENT TRAINING DESIGN” is recommended.
