THE SYSTEM OF EXERCISES FOR INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION COMPETENCIES DEVELOPMENT OF FOREIGN STUDENTS

Abstract
Purpose. To analyze the issues of designing of the system of exercises to develop intercultural competencies of foreign students during the Ukrainian language training. Findings. Specific features of the system of exercises such as motivation, level of communicative value, cultural direction are revealed. The proposed system of exercises for competencies development is characterized. Practical value. Practical tasks for every stage of intercultural competencies development are given. Examples of exercises for gaining knowledge of cultures, traditions, customs, ways, and strategies of overcoming communication difficulties, foster skills of comparing, analyzing, cultural diversity perception are shown in the article. The proposed system of exercises can be used in the process of training the Ukrainian language as a foreign to raise foreign students’ motivation to self-development and professional advancement, interest in learning the language, culture of other peoples, reviewing the attitude to their native culture, finding the ways to settle the problems by dialogue, achieving positive results in interaction with representatives of other cultures. These exercises develop the ability to work in team, defend the point of view, regulate the communication activities, simulate the real-life monologues and dialogues taking into account cultural peculiarities of representatives of other cultures, tolerant attitude to other cultures, develop practical and creative abilities to use language as a means of intercultural relationship cultivation. Originality. For the first time, we have offered the system of exercises for development of intercultural competencies of foreign students. Conclusions. The given system of exercises for intercultural competences development can be used in the teaching process of higher education institutions during the Ukrainian language training of foreign students.
