The Use of New Technologies in the Study of Pregnancy Disorders: The OMICS Approach
Journal Title: Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine and Cardiology - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 1
Abstract
The “omics” technologies represent a new model of approach in the study of human disease. Metabolomics is defined as the quantitative measurement of the dynamic metabolic response of living systems to genetic, physical, pathological or developmental factors. Proteomics analysis of biological samples has the potential to identify novel protein expression patterns and/or changes in protein expression patterns in different developmental or disease states. In this manuscript we present the omics technologies applicated in obstetrics. The management of different pregnancy diseases could be improved by knowing their metabolic background. In this review we focused our attention on omics application for intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), preterm birth and preeclampsia.

Sinoatrial Blocks in Hyperthyroidism Treated with Beta-Blockers: A Case of Paradoxical Treatment
We describe an interesting case of a 52 year-old patient affected by thyrotoxicosis crisis, in whom sinoatrial blocks were associated with syncope and treated efficiently with beta-blockers. We hypothesized the Bezold-J...
A Rare Case of Congenital Rubella Syndrome
Introduction : Congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) is a consequence of rubella infection that can occur when the virus is transmitted in utero during maternal primary infection. It still affects 110,000 children around the...
Disparity between estimates and measures of maximum heart rate in pilots with coronary artery disease
Background : Several studies indicate that HRmax estimates using the traditional equation, HRmax = 220 - Age, may represent a regression slope and intercept that does reflect the true relationship between age and maximal...
Lactate Dehydrogenase is involved in but not the Target Antigen in Children with Kawasaki Disease
Background: Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute vasculitis often complicating coronary arterial lesions, and gradually becomes the leading cause of acquired heart disease instead of rheumatism. Previous studies often regar...
The prevalence, clinical profile and surgical outcomes of children presenting with vascular ring and pulmonary sling
Background: Vascular anomalies are rare abnormalities which present with inspiratory stridor and recurrent respiratory tract infection. They are the commonest causes of mortality and morbidity in children due to misdiagn...
