Theoretical and experimental investigation of on glass solar still

Abstract

This paper presents a theoretical and experimental work performed on a glass solar still. The solar distiller under study was fabricated with cheap glass and the polyethylene as absorber, and was tested under the climatic conditions of the City of Adrar. The theoretical approach is based on the simulation of the solar still system. This study investigates the effect of meteorological parameters such as solar irradiation, and also, the effect of varying the water mass in the basin on the productivity of the basin still. From this tests (theoretical and experimental), it was found that solar radiation has a high influence on the productivity of the still. The results show that also, the daily productivity is around 2.5 l/m²h. It is also noticed that the increase in the water thickness in the basin deceases the daily production of solar still, and the best result was obtained is 3.28 l / m², with a thickness of 0.75 cm.
