THEORETICAL ASPECTS OF LIBRARIAN CAREER DESIGN IN THE CONTEXT OF LIFE-LONG LEARNING CONCEPT

Abstract

The essence of career planning in the context of lifelong learning concept is discussed in the article, keeping the attitude that continuous teaching (learning) is an important criterion determining the successful career of an individual and the survival of the organization. Theoretical reasoning is based on new requirements for the librarian’s activities, which emerge in the processes of globalization and European integration, when the paradigm of continuous learning is becoming a significant feature of the information society. Considering the concept of the career, the principles of career design are distinguished and characterized; the changing roles of the librarian are described. Presented theoretical overview is based on the systematic approach to career design. It is also stressed that the rapidly changing economic, social and technological environment conditions the changes in the librarian’s career; the importance of lifelong learning in the country undergoing transformation is emphasized. After discussing the key components of career design, the theoretical model of librarian career design is presented in the article.
