Abstract
In this study has investigated the relationship between earnings management and the initial issuance of stock (companies that have been issued stock in the stock exchange for the first time) in listed companies in tehran stock exchange. Firstly, we examined the relationship between pairs of variables by correlation analysis using the spss15 software. Then using multiple regression analysis, we tested the hypotheses. The study sample included all firms from 2005 to 2011 that have issued their stocks for the first time (ipo companies). To measure earnings management, the jones’s adjusted model was used. The results indicate that there is a significant relationship between discretionary current accruals and initial issuance of the stock in one year before the issuance of these stocks. In other words, managers are attempting to manage earnings by manipulating the discretionary current accruals. But, there is no significant relationship between discretionary current accruals and the initial issuance of stock in the year of issuance.
