TO THE ISSUE OF INCREASE THE LEVEL OF ECOLOGICAL SAFETY OF GREEN PLANTATIONS IN HUMAN SETTLEMENTS OF UKRAINE UNDER THE EXCESSIVE SPREAD OF THE WHITE MISTLETOE (VISCUM ALBUM L.)

Abstract
Purpose. The aim of the study is to determine relationship between the White Mistletoe density and environmental factors in urban landscapes to improve environmental safety of green plantations.Methodology. Field survey has been carried out in the city of Kharkiv (Ukraine). Sample plots were located within north (1 plot), northeast (6 plots), central (6 plots), west (1 plot) and southeast (1 plot) parts of the city of Kharkiv. Semi-quantitative indexes have been used as a proxy of the White Mistletoe abundance at individual infested tree as follows:index «1» was assigned when the number of mistletoe individual shrubs was from 1 to 5, «2» –from 6 to 10, «3» – from 11 to 20, «4» – from 21 to 40 and so on. К[j-g-s] population-demographic coefficient has been used for displaying approximate ratio of the White Mistletoe shrubs by the age in each separate discrete group. With the applied of multivariate statistics (Principal Component Analysis) methods, environmental factors that affects the distribution of mistletoe at the landscape level have been identified. Results. Environmental variables which influence the White Mistletoe spread on the level of landscape have been evaluated. The White Mistletoe density depends on prevailing age of stands, as well as shares of the White Mistle- toe hosts: White Willow, Horse Chestnut, Norway Maple, Silver Maple, Ash-leaved Maple, European Linden, Robinia Pseudoacacia, Balsamic Poplar and Black Poplar. That gives weighty grounds to optimize the application of these spe- cies in landscape gardening. Such tree species as Smooth-leaved Elm, Black Poplar and European Ash are indicators of the White Mistletoe in landscape. Practical value. The results of investigation have significant practical importance for improving the quality of green spaces in human settlements of Ukraine. Further research should be directed to the developing of environmentally sound recommendations on the White Mistletoe population management in urban eco- systems.
