Training of future software engineers in game programming in the conditions of the short-term learning at the universities

Abstract

The article is deals with the problem of short-term education of future software engineers at universities. One of the aspects of this problem is considered, namely training for professional activity in the game development industry. The relevance of the study is related to the intensive development of this branch of the domestic IT-industry, and with the growing need for workers who specialize in the game development. Such specialists should have abilities to start the execution of work assignments without additional training and to increase their qualifications. The training of future IT-specialists in game programming is the subject of modern research by Ukrainian scholars. However, organizational and methodological approaches to the short-term training of future software engineers in the field of game development almost do not cover in existing research. The article defines organizational and methodological approaches to the short-term training of future software engineers in the field of game development at universities. The experience of domestic and foreign researchers has been analyzed, on the basis of which the structure of four semesters specialization «Game Development» is designed. The list of disciplines is based on the fact that students already have a prior education in related specialties. There are considered some forms, methods and means of higher education graduates training within this specialization. It is shown that the education should be organized in a mixed form, which involves the active use of information and communication technologies for providing access to information and organizing the interaction between teachers and students. The necessity of applying the project method for the formation of students’ practical abilities is shown. The criteria for the selection of tools for future software engineers training in game development are given.
