Abstract
The article presents the toll of early childhood trauma, named traumatic bonding, as an vital factor which influences the human capacity to establish and maintain satisfying relationships and cope with stress. It can also have an impact on the ability to regulate emotions and the ability to cope with traumatic experiences occurring during a child's life. PTSD is a clinical condition which is brought in the wake of a traumatic experience occurring in human life and degrading its quality. It also constitutes a reason for starting psychotherapy. This article shows the relationship between the experience of traumatic bonding with the first meaningful guardian and the phenomena occurring in the psychotherapy of patients with PTSD.The author of the publication describes mentalisation - the process of understanding one’s inner mental states and making them meaningful - as a significant psychotherapeutic skill in the psychotherapy of PTSD-suffering patients. The article is based on theory of bonding by Bowl, papers of Fonagy, Allen, Bateman, Ruppert, and Schore. The author also references to the field of neuropsychology.
