TROPES AS MEANS OF LACONISM AND EXPRESSIVENESS IN COMPRESSED TEXTS OF UKRAINIAN MASS MEDIA

Abstract
The orientation of mass media on laconism and pragmatism has become a stimulus to distribution of the compressed (condensed) texts, i. e. that ones which present information in a short rational form with maximal condensation of information. This effect is achieved by using different means of language compression of information: morphological, lexical, syntactic, stylistic. The article deals with the linguistic problem of the text pragmatics, in particular, the reduction of the text volume without loss of reported information with maximum condensation of the latter. The research is aimed at analyzing the role of tropes as means of the laconism of the semantic-formal structure and the content of the compressed texts in Ukrainian mass media discourse. The compressive potential of the tropes and their functions in terms of the condensation of the information are considered. The research has revealed that different tropes are used in Ukrainian compressed media texts: epithet, metaphor, metonymy, litotes, hyperbole, periphrases, oxymoron, euphemism. They play a meaningful role in the compression of the text volume and condensation satiating them with figurativeness and expressiveness that assist the semantic compression. Tropes not only serve as the means of the attractiveness and manipulation in mass media but also contribute to the sense condensation in short semantic-formal structures.
