Use of Gentamicine sulfate for the control of Pantoea agglomerans, contaminant of the in vitro multiplication of Solanumtuberosum L cv. Desiree
Journal Title: Biotecnología Vegetal - Year 2006, Vol 6, Issue 4
Abstract
Bacterial contamination is one of the principal problems of plant tissue culture. The use of natural or synthetic antimicrobial substances represent an alternative for it solution. In potato micropropagation bacterial contamination produce serious damages. In this paper the effect of Gentamicine sulfate on control of high frequently contaminant was evaluated. The microorganism was isolated from media culture of potato cv. Desirée in vitro plants in multiplication stage. Traditional tintorial, bioquemical and physiological test were performed for bacteria identification together with BIOLOG bacteria identification system. Besides, the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) of Gentamicine sulfate were determined and it antimicrobial and phytotoxic effect in multiplication stage were evaluated too. Pantoea agglomerans was identificated as potato contaminant and show sensibility to Gentamicine sulfate. The MIC was 0.625 mg.l -1 and the MBC was 1.25 mg.l -1 . The antibiotics controlled the contamination in the 80% of contaminated explants without phytotoxicity at 2.5 mg.l -1 .

Response of Opuntia stricta Haw micropropagated plants in acclimatization and field
Forage palm (Opuntia stricta Haw.) is a great important crop for the semi-arid region of Brasil. It has been propagated through in vitro culture, by areole activation. This work aimed to determine the response of Opunti...
Comparison of three total RNA extraction methods from cacao leaves
The establishment of a method for extracting total RNA in plants that meets the required criteria of purity and yield is a critical step for subsequent molecular studies, especially in recalcitrant plants with naturally...

Obtention of microtubers and minitubers as pre basic seed in tree Peruvian potato cultivars
In potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) seed certification programs, the use of in vitro plants, microtubers and minitubers as pre-basic seed are of great importance, especially in countries such as Peru, where there is a nee...
Approaches for in vitro selection of genetically modified Digitalis L. plants
Medicinal plants of Digitalis genus are well known for its ability to produce cardenolides as digoxin. These cardiotonic glucosides are irreplaceable for heart failure treatment. In addition, cardenolides have acquired...
